St. Francis High School (SFHS) has announced Jenna Coy and Colton Burman as the school’s 2025-26 ExCEL Award recipients. Coy and Burman have been submitted to the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) as SFHS’s nominees for the award.
About the award: The MSHSL ExCEL Award – Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership – is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, leaders in their schools, and who demonstrate a strong commitment to community service.
Jenna Coy: Honor Roll student … Member of National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes … Three seasons (two varsity) on the SFHS tennis team and two seasons (one varsity) on the track and field squad … Earned Academic All-Conference three times during her prep career … Gathered a varsity letter in weightlifting and placed second in a lifting competition … Participated in Visual Arts as a freshman and earned “Superior" rating at Mississippi 8 Conference Art Show … Active in the community with many different volunteer activities during high school, including sports camps, being active in her church community and working with kids with special needs … Planned and taught a week-long lesson on racquet sports for a Unified Physical Education class (combines students with Life Skills Special Education students).
Colton Burman: Honor Roll student … Member of the National Honor Society … Has lettered in football (three years), basketball (one year) and soccer (one year), and is a member of the track and field team … North Central All-District Kicker and Punter … All-District Honorable Mention (football) … Three-time member of the North Central Football All-District Academic Team … Named Mississippi 8 Academic All-Conference … Involved in weightlifting at SFHS … Participated in an internship called Play to Your Strengths, where he learned how to use his strengths to lead others … State participant in the Minnesota State 4-H Horse Show … Participated in Visual Arts all three years of high school … Active in the community with many different volunteer activities during high school, including helping with local youth sports, reading to elementary students and managing chores for an elderly and widowed neighbor.
Nomination Criteria:
Be a junior in high school
Make satisfactory progress toward graduation
Participate in an MSHSL fine arts and/or athletic activity
Hold a leadership position(s) in their school
Volunteer in their community
Meet MSHSL General Eligibility Requirements (Bylaw 206)
