For the third straight year, the St. Francis High School (SFHS) Dance Team has qualified for the Class AA Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Dance State Tournament in both High Kick and Jazz. The state competition is set for Feb. 13 for Jazz and Feb. 14 for High Kick at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
The Saints overcame tougher section competition this year after realignment brought in some historically strong dance teams. The High Kick Team placed second at the Section 4AA Championships to secure their fourth overall appearance at the state tournament. The High Kick Team also claimed the Mississippi 8 Conference Championship for the second consecutive season. The Jazz Team finished third to qualify for state for their fourth overall appearance.
Tournament Information: The Class AA Jazz competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13. The Class AA High Kick competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14. The schedule will move ahead if time permits. Spectator information, including details about tickets and streaming, can be found on the MSHSL website.
Individual Awards: Juniors Kylie Schaefer and Katelyn Snyder were named All-State Jazz, while senior Aubree Roeller and junior Kyla Adriaens earned All-State Kick by the Minnesota Association of Dance Teams.
Schaefer, Snyder, junior Jaiden Tucker and sophomore Juliana Steinke were named Mississippi 8 All-Conference Jazz, while junior Claire Hoffman, sophomore Kennedy Coder and 8th grader Brielle Hanson were added to the honorable mention squad.
Roeller, Adriaens, junior Layla Olson, and sophomores Brooke Hanson and Emily Meyer were recognized as Mississippi 8 All-Conference High Kick, while junior Adriana Tucci, freshmen Erica Meyer and Elsie Powers and 8th grader Lyla Uhde were named honorable mention.
